Acting Chief acts like he can spell.

WOW!! I can't even begin to point out the things that bother me about this! Where exactly did he get his 'edjumucation'? Please note that a couple of words there, (signuture), are misspelled twice. That sounds to me as if it isn't a typo, but it's actually the way the lieutenant believes it is supposed to be spelled.

Maybe they could write some extra tickets or take some of Mr. Haynes' nearly $200,000 salary and invest it in the new Windows Vista for the lieutenant. I hear it's got a heck of a spell checker installed!!

Of course it's all about 278. 'Old Hardeeville' is something the current administration doesn't want to deal with. Did you ever notice, though, that when you see a sign or television commercial for Traditions or ANY other business is Hardeeville, that they always say something like, "Just off I-95 on highway 278." They NEVER claim to be in Hardeeville. Most of the television ads that list the areas they are near always show a map of the lowcountry area and label Pooler, Savannah, Garden City, Ridgeland, Bluffton, Hilton Head and Beaufort but NEVER list Hardeeville. Just go to the Traditions sales office and ask a simple question..."Is this in Hardeeville?" They'll usually reply with a sharp, "NO! This is Traditions."

OMG - I, at first, thought that some of the questions that were posted here were a little off. But I did some fact finding on some of the questions that was posted by GOODTHINGALLTHEOLDONESARENTDEAD, especially question number three.

(3. IS IT TRUE THAT THE CHEIF OF ANOTHER DEPARTMENT WAS FIRED FOR RUNNING A QUESTIONAL WEBSITE ON PUBLIC COMPUTERS AT HIS FORMER JOB?

I was shocked, to say the least. I stumbled across this info from a newspaper article concerning this matter. This is the actual newspaper article and I am posting it in its entirety.

FIRE CHIEF RESIGNS OVER FIREFIGHTER'S EXOTIC JOB
MOONLIGHTING WORKER SUSPENDED FOR 2 WEEKS
DaNICA COTO, STAFF WRITER
Fire Chief John Ekaitis was forced to resign this week after Mount Holly officials learned that one of his firefighters moonlighted on an adult Web site as a partially clothed exotic dancer.
Mount Holly City Manager David Kraus declined to say why Ekaitis was forced to resign, but added that the firefighter, Richard Harris, was suspended for two weeks without pay.
Ekaitis and Harris could not be reached for comment.
City employees are required to register with the city if they have outside employment, but Harris did not register his job as an exotic dancer, said Assistant City Manager Jamie Guffey.
The policy does not include a moral or ethical clause, and the city does not regularly verify whether employees register their second jobs, he said.
"The problem is that it's based on employees telling the truth," Guffey said.
Kraus said he found out about the Web site after a person he would not identify contacted him about it last week.
Former Assistant Fire Chief John Calder replaced Ekaitis, who was chief for about three years.

Re-read this article, He is not the one that was doing the website. In fact, it clearly states that the City Manager refused to say WHY he was forced to resign. It was another firefighter that was the one working as an exotic dancer on a website.

Get the facts straight and stop twisting things to be the way you need them to be to match your agendas.

GOODTHINGALLTHEOLDONESARENTDEAD said...

Dear Council person

you think we are stupid, well according to your thought pattern YOU the Mayor, and the Administrator have to go . You are in charge and if an employee ( like the fireman) does something wrong he getts a slap on the rist and you get fired.

So be it Start the firing with the bosses. Are you ready to resign because that is what you are saying. He got fired for nothing Right!!!!!! want to buy some prime real estate east of hilton head???????????????

seab said...

who are you talking to?

Anonymous said...

First of all, the article was posted as a backstory to one of the key players in the drama unfolding in Hardeeville. I for one was surprised and think that it is a interesting bit of history.

Let's come to an understanding; posting information that is already available to the public is not twisting things to match an agenda and if you say "get your facts straight" one more time, I am going to assume that you aren't as intelligent as I originally thought.

The article and the person posting it are mutually exclusive.

Also, the article brings up many questions in the minds of readers I would imagine, just as it has in mine.

One of which is, is their more to the story? When any public official or prominent figure resigns there can sometimes be more to it than the public is allowed to know. In this case there have been rumors of inappropriate internet activities at work on the part of the fire chief. So, this article makes me wonder...

Is there a pattern?

Anonymous said...

one doesn't need to look too far in the hierarchy of elected officials to know that he was found passed out drunk in his personal vehicle in the middle of the roadway

seab said...

unexpected.....what does that have to do with what was being said about the fire chief?

Anonymous said...

kinda outta the loop, I was referring to an earlier question about whether or not a public official was found passed out drunk in his vehicle... and it is true

Anonymous said...

and to continue with that the chief did not demand anything from the Officer...

seab said...

What is the point? Why spout these allegations about this official? What is your purpose? What is to be gained by doing this?

Anonymous said...

the purpose would be that conducting yourself in an unprofessional manner, or in an illegal manner, should not be overlooked because you are a public official, in fact, if you choose to serve and represent the people, you should be held to a higher standard......you can bet that if joe citizen were found passed out drunk in his car in the middle of the road that the revenue bank would get a little fatter!!! Not to mention the moral aspect....this could not have been the first time......

seab said...

You did not answer what is to be gained by doing this? What is your agenda? What are you fighting for exactly?

Anonymous said...

i guess the agenda and what i'm fighting for is, for a few,
1) that the alledged behavoir not be allowed to continue
2) that hardeeville should be constituted with people with an interest in the safety of it's population

seab said...

I honestly believe that your agenda will not be won in this way. Since we both know that proof does not exist, why not sit back and see if these changes might be for the better.

pop-50 said...

Seab all you want is proof, ask the officers who work with these people and saw these acts. Stop protecting the wrong of hardeeville, you make it seem your real identity would show you to be one of them. meow .. meow

Anonymous said...

There is no 'agenda' as you elude to. The facts are the facts, and one only needs to speak to the officers involved to understand that it is the truth. I have spoken to these officers and I know that they are indisputable facts... why not hold your elected officals up to the same scrutiny that you do with your sworn officials?

Anonymous said...

Now, let me say one more thing about this whole Hardeeville 'drama' (in points):

1. I know first hand what it's like to work in Hardeeville, been there done that.

2. I have worked with Dan Martin, the interim chief. I have no grudge against the man. I didn't always get along with him, sometimes I down-right disliked him, BUT, despite his failings, I always knew that if I needed him, he would be there without question, so what if he can't spell? He could fight, and sometimes that's what was needed.

3. Jimmy Hubbard, the former chief, was a good man for the job at the time. I don't know first hand, the atmosphere of the town and department at the time of his relief (only second hand) and can not speak or write intelligently about that situation without referring to what I've been told second hand from source(s) who have first hand knowledge.

4. What I do know is that the Hardeeville town management, was, at the very least very misguided during my tenure. That I can attest to without reservation.

5. I choose to post here because I feel it's time. As the main character in "V for Vendetta" stated all too clearly... "...there is something very wrong with this (city)..."

And that is all.

seab said...

"you make it seem your real identity would show you to be one of them"

You know what they say about assuming! I am not one of them. I do not have a dog in this fight.

Wiley Coyote said...

The time that the official was found passed out drunk behind the wheel in the middle of the roadway was heard over scanners all over the city. I've heard that the recordings of everything put out to police by their dispatch center is available to the public. I was one of the many that actually heard when they sent those officers out to that car and the license plate number that was given can be found on Epps Avenue.

On a totally separate note, I heard that the mayor isn't gonna run for office again next year. What's the matter Colonel Sanders? Chicken????

ONCE MORE WHAT IS ETHICAL IN ALL OF THIS

Coach said...

I decided to visit this Website because I am interested in Hardeeville and I want to see this city progress and succeed. This is a chat room for plain old simple hate. What a shame to have a Website to spew hate and hide behind blog posts because some disagree with city management’s decisions. This city will endure, and believe it or not, move on in spite of nay Sayers and unidentified critics.

seab said...

And I ask you, what is ethical about setting up a blog that is working to spread hatred amoung the council that serves you?

Yes, I am drilling home the fact that proof is needed. Without REAL legitimate proof all you have is hearsay.

I will NOT stop asking for adequate proof. I am smarter than to believe everything I hear or to take things at face value. (a trait that would serve all of you very well)

I am NOT a political figure in this city or in any other city. I do NOT make policy and I have NOTHING to gain or to loose here.

Hey SEAB I think we'll all gain something if you stop making stupid points. Hey I-am-coming-to-get-U! Come get you some!

Anonymous said...

Well, unfortunately, we are all stuck with Shane and Dan Martin.

For now.

But I do believe that the legal system will remove some or force them out while Martin will either remain a Lt., resign under pressure from those local police that hate him, or be forced to resign by Shane or fired.

He was used by the City for a specific purpose and now they will not be associated with an illiterate, so I have heard.

Also, to address the issue of proof and this blog site -

This site deals in facts and will continue to do so.

Users opinions or beliefs do not degrade the purpose of this site as they do not degrade the purpose of any other popular blog site, such as "Bluffton today" or "The Island Packet."

So to clarify what Seab has incorrectly identified as "hearsay" - any average person can clearly see they are facts. Whether it is audio, documentation, or articles from other well known sources.

The truth is unfolding and contrary to what is being posted, the evidence we hold is being judiciously presented as we can and in our own time.

Those who are demanding proof today are probably anxious to know what we have up our sleeve because they or someone they know is worried.

Do you think that we are simpletons?

Never underestimate your adversary. Our agenda is set and our plan to see justice done is well though out and it is being executed with extreme precision.

Let us be judged by our results...

seab said...

Pop-50, I will say that it is a very weak defensive to attack the opposing side. In my experience, only people that have nothing to stand on take that approach.

Admin, I am only demanding proof because I am intelligent enough to make my own decisions about what is truth and fiction.

One amazing thing though is that on a blog that criticizes LT. Martin for grammer and spelling that there are so many errors by the ones complaining.

Anonymous said...

Potentially a good point, however, I think that Dan Martin is expected to adhere to a higher standard than the average blogger. This is written, official documentation vs. "Joe Blog's" thoughts.

Anonymous said...

seab, when you are in battle, do you not attack the opposing side? And yes, it is a battle, a battle for the common man told his city officials up to that higher standard. If you are intelligent enough to make your own decisions about what is truth and fiction, then you would be intelligent enough to talk with officers and townspeople before you spout that there is no proof.

seab said...

Why talk to the officers? Why? To get more hearsay? what they SAY isn't considered proof....

Anonymous said...

so talking to an officer who was in the meeting, or to the people that were involved or witnessed some of the incidents would be hearsay? I really think that you would deny these acts if they took place in front of you.

seab said...

No, I would not discount entirely. But, I am looking for hard, factual proof. Not just something I am told.

Anonymous said...

Seab -

I say anyone because I mean ANYONE knows that in every lie or misstatement there is an element of truth.

Perhaps you should consider that despite the stone cold proof that you apparently demand: where there is smoke, there is fire. That IS the point.

Drawing persons together for a collective purpose such as this blogspot, should have at the least pointed out to you that there's a lot of 'smoke' indicating there is a definite 'fire'.

seab said...

Possibly, but one should not base their opinions on words alone.

Anonymous said...

true, things should not be based on words alone. There are three sides to every story: my side, your side, and what really happened.
Politics is politics no matter how you wrap it up it's the same thing.
As for my side, I have evidence of what happened with my case in the town of Hardeeville. At the time I was lead to believe that it was merely a clerical error, though my gut instinct was that it was more than just an 'error'.. now I see that it wasn't and there are other people with similar issues.

In my case the blame lies strictly on the shoulders of the person holding the books. I don't know if that was the first puff of smoke, but I do know that it happened and would testify to these facts in any court.

My chief complaint is that no one seems to be doing anything about this situation and the town is content to 'black bag' those involved, make them disappear in other words, rather than deal with the true issues.

Me? I imagine Saeb as a Bluffton Today employee who hasn't been the same ever since he got rid of his ponytail. A lap dog of Shane Haynes. By the way Shane, I think alot of people remember your big 'Team Me' day when the new sports fields opened behind city hall. You did your usual BS bible quotes along with some crying, but the thing that sticks out most in my mind is that you kept referring to yourself as the 'Coach' of Hardeeville. Granted, that was much better than the crying session a few months before that when you called yourself the 'dictator' of Hardeeville and were just short of referring to the city employees as the jews though. My point is...Coach? If that is you, I have to applaud your honesty, (finally), about the plans to get rid of the lieutenant. Hopefully he's reading those posts, (or having someone read them for him), and taking heed. Also, it seems I read a few times in the paper,(a REAL newspaper. Not the Bluffton Today), that this whole restructuring thing was for ALL city departments. Well who has been let go in the fire department, public works or city hall? Where is their restructuring?

seab said...

I am flattered that my identity has brought forth such speculation. I am no one of interest and am absolutely not anyone that you have mentioned.

Coach said...

This is an invite to seab and those like him or her to join my club of the wise and the hypothesized. It appears that our mature, informed, and objective posts and our refusals to reduce our posts to name-calling have those who would prefer to operate under the spirit of spite, revenge and profanity, pondering about who we might be. I can say this. I would love to see the city of Hardeeville reach its potential. If I could be a part of that, that would be great. I said that the Lt would be taken care of not because I have any say or authority in the manner; I just know how life works. I know how leadership works too. My posts are submitted to converse with those who choose the high road. Is that you?

Phantom said...

Coach,

I think maybe you flatter yourself a little. I agree that name calling, profanity, and the like only detract from the cerdibility of a statement. Having said that, it is my opinion that presenting yourself as superior is equally detracting. The ONLY informed ones here are those that have worked for the City Of Hardeeville in the past, or present, and have seen first hand what abuse of power is. If you don't personally know Shane, or any of the others, you cannot speak intelligently about the situation. We do appreciate your explanation of the workings of local government, but please,if you haven't gone through it, don't try to tell the rest of us that we shouldn't expect justice (not revenge or spite) I challenge you not to want the same if you ever lose your job for no reason.

Coach said...

Phantom and all of my friends,
The answer is YES to all of the above. I have experienced losing a job because of working for a “toxic power boss.” So I speak from my own experiences and education, while trying not to offend, but to edify. Remember, a lot of my submissions were merely my thoughts and my opinions. I can be dead wrong. But, having worked in local government and having taught local government and management at the college level, I do know how those work. And, no, I do not personally know Shane or the Lt; never worked for or with either. This is why, perhaps, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Just like I would anybody. I just wanted dialogues without the name-calling and pure conjecture. So, that said, I will not visit the site or contribute anymore after this. Anyone who was offended by my opinions, or my attempts at reason and information, please accept my deepest apologies. This is the Coach, signing off, heretofore. Good luck to all of you.
