City Hall Courts New Chief Prospect
I've been trying to give city hall some time to come clean about the new chief, but evidently they aren't going to, so here it goes... There was a big hush hush luncheon almost 2 weeks ago which was set up to welcome, (or perhaps attract), what was supposed to be the new police chief. Out of the hundreds of applicants they got, (yeah right), they had evidently narrowed it down to one Richard Nagy whom alot of people may know as the associate deputy director of the criminal justice academy in Columbia. He is also sometimes known as "The Cleaner" because of his ability to come into a place and "clean house" so to speak.
Now alot of people might think I'm posting this to badmouth the man but it's quite the contrary. I believe that most of us would have LOVED to see him come in and do what so desparately needs to be done and I was planning on wishing him well on setting that city straight. But, unfortunately, word has it that he is not taking the position. I can only guess that the reasons are numerous ranging from the fact that he is literate all the way to the fact that he would probably want something outrageous such as control of his department which Shane would never allow.
This is rather unfortunate for Shane as well since now he will have to find someone else to spill the blood since he hasn't got the guts.
**You administrators with your big bellies and big salaries!** LOL
Anyway, Mr. Nagy, we would love for you to reconsider but I think most of us understand all too well why no one would want to work there. I applaud you for looking out for yourself since working in hardeeville would be career suicide with Shane at the helm. Good luck in all your future endeavors.
Can you see the end yet lieutenant? It's just around the bend!!

I must respond to this, since no one esle wants to:
Richard Nagy! Hardeeville dodged a bullet. Ask anyone who worked with Nagy in Bennettsville, Beaufort, or those now at the academy. He does have an ego, but he is not stupid enough to leave an 86K state job to be chief in Hardeeville, SC, pop 1700 and shrinking, thanks to awful city management. To boot, Nagy has not managed a police department in over 12 years. He has been mostly driving back and forth to Columbia from Port Royal. I thought they did not want a 30-year police veteran (they had one… and they fired him). And, they really don’t need a longtime officer who has retired in this, or any other state. They will just retire again when they get ticked off. If the city was fair they would open up the process and not be so secretive. The community should get involved in this crucial hire. Maybe, Hardeeville should just rehire Hubbard. He might take his job back! My guess is they are so high and mighty; they are probably not giving the real viable candidates the time of the day. Another point, and don’t get mad at me for saying this but, a black or a female applicant probably won’t get any consideration, even though the city has a high Hispanic and Black population. And, both segments of those races thought the world of Hubbard, even with his thin policy manual. Finally, the $24,000 the city spent on their consultant could have been spent on beautifying the town’s Main Street and Hwy 17-A corridor appearance. Look at what Ridgeland has done. Do that, and they might not run all of their handpicked candidates back to Florida.
They're probably waiting to find one of Shane's or Kevin's friends to take the job. That's pretty much how the entire city hall got staffed once they moved into that new building. Kevin and another female employee were a couple of Shane's good buddies from Georgia and now Kevin has given positions to a couple of his friends from Walterboro. Are they in on that land development deal outside of Ridgeland that Kevin has been working on? Who knows!! Do YOU Shane?
Well apparently not showing up for their big luncheon didn't sway city hall from reaching even deeper into Shane's municipal piggy bank! Richard Nagy is starting on June 1st as the new chief and I can only guess that his salary offer went from 50 to 60 thousand to 80 thousand or more. Congrats Mr. Nagy! I really hope you can straighten that place out and make it a good department. The good news is that you don't really have any big shoes to fill since you're taking Dan Martin's place instead of Jimmy Hubbard's. An undertrained chimp could replace Martin.
Hope you like brown nosing as well because all those officers, whether certified or not, are gonna be on you like white on rice! Good luck, though! Maybe with a competent person at the helm hardeeville won't have anymore avoidable murders.
As reported in the Beaufort Gazette on April 27th...
"Sgt. Arnold Middleton said Nagy's selection was a "welcome relief" to the officers. Lt. Dan Martin has been serving as interim chief."
"They did a real good job selecting a qualified candidate," said Middleton, who worked with Nagy in Beaufort. "We've been waiting for so long. I think they picked the best. Unfortunately, we've got to wait until June 1."
Told ya'!!!! Let the brown nosing commence!
Also...
"Nagy will be paid $82,000 a year."
I hate to say it again, but...Told ya' so!!
So will Chief Nagy be in the least bit curious about the fact that Dan Martin is now, and has been, living in Georgia for the past 5+ years thereby clearly violating not only hardeeville's own requirements to be a police officer, but state policy as well?
Don't forget giving false information on a government form at the DMV back in February!
