Search Continues For Hardeeville Murder Suspect
Tonight, police continue the search for a suspected murderer. Alfred Redwine, 21, from Hilton Head, is wanted for kidnapping and murder following the death of Hardeeville resident Demetria Eady, 29, a mother of two young boys. While authorities nationwide have been told to be on the lookout for Redwine, some wonder if police did all they could to find Demetria. When Demetria walked out of the Star Point gas station on Highway 17 in Hardeeville, owner Ranok Patel never imagined his favorite customer would never come back. "She is our best customer. So friendly," Ranok said. "Everyone knew 'D' in this community. We are devastated." Minutes after 'D' walked out the door, customers rushed in wanting to know if Ranok knew what had happened. He didn't. "They saw her try to get out, pushing the driver out of the way, and he wouldn't let her out," he said. A volunteer firefighter saw a similar scene down the road, and called police. Demetria left the store at 11:55 Tuesday morning, and got into the passenger seat of a car. Police had first report of an incident at around 12:20pm, almost 25 minutes later. "He stated he saw a lady hanging out of a gray Oldsmobile, out the passenger side window down First Street," Lt. Dan Martin with Hardeeville Police Department said. "She was struggling with the driver to get out of the vehicle." Lt. Martin says, at that point, police saturated Hardeeville, looking for the vehicle. Between 3pm and 4pm, Ranok says police showed up at his store to review the surveillance tape. "They came and got what they needed from surveillance," he said. But, Ranok's not sure police did enough. Like others, he expected a search for Demetria, which didn't happen until later that night after family members officially filed a report. "That is shocking," Ranok said. "I know the police here and I would have expected them to be all over something like this." A "be on the lookout" alert for Redwine did not go out until after 7pm Tuesday night. Demetria's body was found 12 hours later, several miles away along a dirt path on Old Charleston Highway outside Ridgeland. "We thought they were together, not separated," Lt. Martin told WTOC. "We did everything we could at that point with the information we had." "I think they could have reacted a little better than they did," Ranok said. He isn't sure a different response would have saved D's life, but if he was kidnapped, he knows how he'd like police to respond. "They need to react any time, doesn't matter if it is false," Ranok said. "React no matter what." Police say Redwine is the cousin of Demetria Eady's fiance. Redwine is still on the loose and considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen driving a red Ford Explorer, with South Carolina tag number 650-VJE. If you have any information on Redwine's whereabouts, contact Hardeeville Police at 843.784.2233 or Jasper County Sheriff's Office at 843.726.7777. Reported by: Don Logana, mailto:dlogana@wtoc.com

Our prayers and thoughts are for the family of the deceased.
To clarify, this article is not a jab at the Hardeeville Police department but simply a reporting of the facts.
What an absolutely horrible thing to have happened. Let's hope this scumbag gets brought to justice soon and the family can have at least a little peace knowing he'll be dealt with accordingly. My opinion? Let the punishment fit the crime!
Okay, if nobody else is gonna say it then I will...That store owner is absolutely correct. 7 hours before a be on the lookout was issued? WTF?! And what does, "We thought they were together, not separated" mean? If they were together then she was still in danger, right? Also, the part about the volunteer firefighter seeing them going down first street is frustrating because, where does first street lead to? Out of the city! So again I must ask...SEVEN hours for a be on the lookout? In addition, what I heard on my scanner certainly didn't sound like anyone "saturating Hardeeville" looking for them. What I heard was officers right back out on I-95 stopping speeders. Can't blame those officers though, since that's all they are trained to do. I guess if someone kidnaps someone then they would almost certainly stay inside the city limits, huh lieutenant? Ridiculous. Sleep well citizens of hardeeville! It should be painfully obvious now just how safe you are!
While I support traffic enforcement as a viable service to a community, a police department's main purpose should be to protect and serve, not patrol the interstate to generate revenue for the city's general fund!
Yours truly,
coach - the guy who wants to be and should be the new chief!
Well, at least Dan Martin's dumb ass will fry for this!
Shane will just wait for the new chief to be hired and then it's - bye bye, Low IQ redneck!
Is it true that there wasn't even a report done on the initial call because the lieutenant said that he wouldn't do one because it was "probably nothing" and then the responding officer was called back in from his home later that night to throw a report in right quick once it was known that the victim's family was out looking for her?
I've heard that as well. It is a FACT, however, that the officer who went to the gas station where she was abducted was right back out on the interstate stopping speeders just a few minutes after leaving there. It's a real shame that Dan Martin's incompetence, (which has ALWAYS made him out to be a joke), has now trickled down and made the entire hardeeville police force look that way as well. Attaboy lieutenant! Job well done!
I understand that it has been reported now that Eady was shot as well as beaten. So now we not only have a murderer on the loose, but an ARMED murderer on the loose. The guilt on Dan Martin should be absolutely overwhelming. Well, hopefully there won't be any more victims such as innocent civilians or police officers who happen upon this lunatic by accident. If so, I blame not only Redwine, but Shane Haynes for firing Jimmy Hubbard who would've handled this situation professionaly and possibly apprehended the suspect by letting other agencies know about him, and Dan Martin for sending officers right back out to write tickets and then getting in front of a television camera and lying his ass off in a pathetic showing of cowardice.
This has to do with Hardeevile or possible soon to be Hardeeille. What is going on with rezoning Levy Limehouse into Hardeeville city limits? We should get to give our opinion without Shane just going over everyones heads and pushing it through. I heard they had a group in Levy trying to stop the vote on June 5 but Shane will get more money to use if it passes. Please give me some info on this. Thanks
Evidently Levy is attempting to become their own municipality. Not sure where you're hearing that it's going to be a part of hardeeville because nothing could be further from the truth. Shane and his cronies, (city council), would LOVE to annex that area in, but the residents there want absolutely nothing to do with hardeeville in any way, and who could blame them?! When you have police officers kicking in doors and illegaly entering and arresting people in their own home without a warrant, it certainly doesn't seem like much of a place to live.
