I am writing this letter to any good journalist who wants to know the truth about all that is and has happened in reference to the “revamping” of Hardeeville Police Dept. I am quite sure you will understand my reasons after you complete the reading of this letter.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to any good journalist who wants to know the truth about all that is and has happened in reference to the “revamping” of Hardeeville Police Dept. First, let me say that I will not divulge any information as to who I am for all the personal reasons one would want to keep their anonymity. I am quite sure you will understand my reasons after you complete the reading of this letter. Starting from the beginning, let’s go back to when Officers Keefner, Washington, Benton, White, and Shifflitt, were forced to “resign” for reasons unknown to the public.
Keefner: Ok, fine. “Brought a negative impact on HPD”. Not much to say about that being as I’m not sure as to what the circumstances were surrounding that issue.
Washington and Henderson (Henderson was the treasurer at City Hall): These two individuals were dating and this was not supposed to be but there was money changing hands behind closed doors and ultimately they were fired for other reasons beyond that. As far as whose hands the money was going in and out of? Well, let’s just say the good people of City Hall were supposed to investigate that and it got swept under the rug, so to speak. However, I will say that “somebody” received a nice “severance check”.
White: I never did get very much info on this one. I do know that he was not a very fair individual and did not operate in the most politically correct manner one should if they’re going to be a Captain of a Police Dept. Hence, Chief Hubbard asked him as well as Washington to resign. (Hubbard always was a martyr for what was fair and right so the pattern will show such.)
Benton: Benton, the great officer that he was and still is, went to all lengths to see that the city of Hardeeville had all the right community policing possible and strived for an impeccable team who had a common interest. He wanted to be the officer that “helped” the community and the one to make it more of a “family”. All that went on with the “back stabbing” and resignation, the stepping on necks and clawing your way to the top got the best of his spirit and he too bit the dust and resigned.
Shifflitt: This fine officer was doing as he was told and patrolling the streets of Hardeeville on July 4th when low and behold he comes across City Counsel Member, Brooks Willis. Willis told him to “Get to work and stop just hanging around. That’s what you’re paid for.” Shifflitt’s response: Mr. Willis, I have been driving these streets all night, I am doing my job!” That didn’t please the Counsel Member and the very next day; Shifflitt was asked to bring in his badge and gun with his gear and was incidentally “terminated”.
While this was all going on, every one of the Officers at Hardeeville PD were put on notice. This includes Chief Hubbard. He was to take two weeks leave while the restructuring took place. Nice scare for a 26 year veteran, wouldn’t you agree? Shortly after all of this went on, Shane Haynes, City Manager now, got an enormous increase in his salary. He is currently up to 150,000.00. Wow, that was a lot of zeros. Wait let me double check and make sure I have that right. Yes, I believe I do. Now I will take you to present day.
All of the employees of Hardeeville Police Dept. had a meeting whereas the Police Chief Jimmy Hubbard announced his termination. He stated this came after he was asked to resign and retire. Hubbard stated he was just not ready for that. He didn’t feel his work was done. After 26 years on the force and building the Dept. with his bare hands, Shane Haynes tossed him to the dogs and terminated the fine Chief. It’s just that simple. Hubbard asked if there were any questions and as always, he would be honest with his response. Question: “Why Chief? What are we or did you do that was so wrong? Response: “Lack of revenue. Haynes does not believe we’re doing all we can to get the revenue in here that is needed for Hardeeville to go where it needs to go.” Question: “So we’re not writing enough tickets, is that it?” Response “Yes, in a nut shell, our ticket revenue is not meeting the City’s needs.” This did not come as a shock to the Officers as they are to write a certain number of tickets every day. If they fail to do so, it is noted on their personnel files that their performance is lacking. This “quota” is highly illegal by the way! However, it is never written on paper as to why their performance is lacking and the legal issue is the reason as to why. One legally cannot ask their department to write a certain amount of tickets. The law states this. (Officer Macintosh resigned due to similar circumstances about a week ago.)
After tears and upheaval, stress and grief, all of the Dept. went on their way to the “big meeting” with Haynes at City Hall. Here’s how that went:Upon entering, Shane Haynes starts by telling everyone that at no time during or after the meeting should anyone in the room ask any questions. All questions will be directed to the Chain of Command. Haynes went on to say the meeting was to explain the circumstances surrounding Jimmy Hubbard’s termination. “Jimmy was given plenty of notice and time to bring this department where it needed to be. He failed to do just that. I begged Jimmy Hubbard to just do whatever it took to get this City’s Police Dept. and this city where it needed to be and he failed at that. I am sorry for that. I take full responsibility for his termination. If you all need to blame someone, blame me. I will take that. I have thick skin. Do not blame your Lt. for that. He did not want this. He did not ask for this. Jimmy was a good man. He was beloved by you all and many people in this community. He will be missed greatly. I am sorry for that. But, we need to move forward. This is a ship friends, and it is about to set sail. Now, are you with on board or aren’t you? If you’re not, well turn in your badge and gun right now and you will be left at the dock. This is not about ticket revenue. So if you al think that is the case, well you are mistaken so get it out of your heads! (More stern). This is simply not the case. I cannot help it if you all are not patrolling these streets as you should. If you are spreading the word on the street that we are asking for ticket revenue, you are to be terminated on the spot. If I hear one more comment about such, you will be told to turn in your equipment and leave. If any one of you wants to leave right now then go ahead! You’re either with me or you’re not!” More was said about the officers’ salary and benefits being great and it was stated several more times for the officers to quit now if they were not “on board”. Their jobs were threatened repeatedly by Haynes stating, “If you tell your Sister, your Aunt, your Cousin, your friends, if you go to the media, if you comment about any of what has taken place today, you will be terminated! No questions asked! Can I be any more clear? Can I? Well then, let me finish by reading some quotes and scripture because I too have had a difficult time with this. (He reads from a Quote book).
Meeting is about to adjourn when Officer Callais asks to speak. No questions, just address his coworkers and fellow officers. He was granted permission by Haynes. Callais stands and goes to the podium. Haynes steps aside. Callais begins by stating who he is and how long he has worked for Hardeeville PD. He states “all this talk about all this not being about ticket revenue and what not is false. We all know that, but whatever. There are a lot of things that go on here that are wrong but we can’t stop that.” (Callais is interrupted by Haynes saying “Ok, that’s enough!) Callais continues. Haynes yells “I said that was enough!” Callais then announces his resignation for the reasons he stated above. By this time Haynes tells other Officers to “Get him out of here, now!” Callais stated there was no need as he was just leaving. Two Officers rise and approach Callais. Callais starts out the door but not before telling Lt. Dan Marten to “Keep up the ticket count LT!, Good job with those quotas!” Callais then exits. After Callais departs, Haynes asks all in the remaining in the room, “Is there anyone else?” Then he yells to the top of his lungs, “IS THERE ANYONE ELSE? YOU SEE? THAT IS THE TYPE OF INDIVIDUAL YOUR BELOVED CHIEF HIRED INTO THIS DEPARTMENT! THAT CANCER! AND IT’S SPREADING PEOPLE! YOU DID THIS TO YOUR CHIEF! EVERY ONE OF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING THE KNIVES IN HIS BACK, NOT ME! YOU DID THIS! (Condescending) YOU POLICE OFFICERS WITH YOUR BIG BADGE AND YOUR BIG GUN! YOU THINK YOU’RE ALL JUST BIG BAD ASSES DON’T YOU? HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHIEFS TERMINATION! YOU WANT TO BLAME ME, YOU GO RIGHT AHEAD IF THAT HELPS YOU SLEEP BETTER AT NIGHT, IF THAT’S WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELVES THEN YOU GO RIGHT AHEAD! DOES ANYONE ELSE WANT TO GO WITH HIM? YOU GO RIGHT NOW. I COULDN’T GIVE A DAMN IF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU QUIT RIGHT NOW! IF YOU’RE ON BOARD THEN LET’S GO! IF NOT, THEN YOU GET THE HELL OFF MY SHIP!” Haynes then storms out of the room. Meeting adjourned.
This, my friend, is in fact the truth. You will not hear this from any other source and I can almost guarantee that. Hardeeville is in big trouble! So long as Shane Haynes is in office, all who are concerned will suffer. It is my hope that the elections will change things but my fear is that it will only get worse! What needs to happen is an outside source, perhaps from the State or an official from the state needs to come in and investigate what is going on. Truth-Hardeeville can barely make payroll every week. Just ask their clerk. She won’t tell you that though. She’d lose her job too. There’s a lot wrong there! It just takes the right person to change it and make all the wrongs right. That person is NOT Shane Haynes. Part of the solution was Chief Hubbard. But he was not willing to play the game…the rules were unfair and the cards were stacked against him. He was too honest of a man and too good hearted. His only concern was the good citizens of Hardeeville. Just walk around and field interview. You’ll see. The answers are all out there. All you need to do is ask. Just get ready! You’ll be the next victim if you’re not careful. Shane Haynes had Hardeeville running scared.Case in point~Sincerely and honestly yours,Anonymous!

There are so many points to be raised here.

Let me start with just one:

Initially Shane states that "I take full responsibility for his termination. If you all need to blame someone, blame me. I will take that. I have thick skin."

And yet:

"YOU DID THIS TO YOUR CHIEF! EVERY ONE OF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING THE KNIVES IN HIS BACK, NOT ME! YOU DID THIS! "

and:

"YOU POLICE OFFICERS WITH YOUR BIG BADGE AND YOUR BIG GUN! YOU THINK YOU’RE ALL JUST BIG BAD ASSES DON’T YOU? HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHIEFS TERMINATION!"

These comments blantantly contradict each other. And the level of respect for police officers is simply horrifyingly disrespectful. These guys are not perfect I know, but no one should be spoken to in that manner.

Further proof that Shane only sees police officers as a source of revenue for his screw ups (c.f. the comp check debacle and lack of subsequent investigations)

Please, please people, this site must get around h'ville citizens in order to make a true difference. Tell your family, friends, people you see in piggly wiggly, the gas stations, in Shoneys. GET THE WORD OUT! SHANE NEEDS TO GO!

What else needs to be said?

What a piece of....work that 'man' is. I wouldn't piss on him if his teeth were on fire. Anybody familiar with him won't be surprised by any of this, though, since most meetings with him go in exactly the same direction. His short temper is very well known by anyone who has had the extreme displeasure of being around him for any amount of time. Maybe he should watch the movie Anger Management in one of the DVD monitors in his city vehicle.

Almost forgot! Good job administrator 1. It seems that you concluded your 'review' of that post even faster than that cracker jack team of 'journalists' at Bluffton Today!

While most of your information is accurate to a certain point, you didn’t quite get the incident involving Shiflett right. What actually happened was this.

Counsel Member Willis met with Shiflett in a parking lot in reference to the fireworks that were being shot off in the city. Willis was upset and complaining because Shiflett was enforcing the law on fireworks. Why you ask? Well it's because Willis had a friend that had been on the receiving end of this enforcement.

Coincidently Willis was very outspoken about enforcing the laws no matter what, earlier that day. Various other matters were discussed that night durring their meeting in the parking lot. The ending result of this meeting was Willis leaving the location in a furious temper tantrum.

The next day there was another meeting involving another Counsel member. However, I’m not going to disclose that information since I was not present, nor am I able to confirm what was said.

In any event the ending result of those two meetings was Shiflett being forced out of HPD very quickly.

that's the way I was told (second hand) from someone that was there when it went down.. what a load of hooey (Willis' actions)

seab said...

you both have proven my point. Atleast one of you has admittedly conveyed second hand information as fact. There are two different stories on the same event. This is why I was asking for HARDCORE proof rather than just wanting to know what someone said about it.

The truth is that many people can be in the same room and remember events slightly different.

There is also the fact that as stories are repeated they tend to become more embellished.

In light of your last comment, Seab, I would refer you to the person who was fired. I was spoken to directly after the incident... approximately 10 minutes after the fact. Now that is not SOLID proof, but generally speaking when an incident that shocks a person occurs, generally when they re-tell that incident to another, it contains factual information and can be taken as it is without adulteration. i.e. a man gets shot, stumbles into a room full of people and states "I was shot by" such and such...

It is time for the CITIZENS and the BUSINESS OWNERS to take there fight to City Hall. You put that Council in place to look after our town and they are not doing the job that they were put there to do.

For them to let Mr.Haynes a man who has no clue what it is to run a polie department go in on a firing spree, and fire Chief Hubbard and put Lt. martin in his place this showed that Mr. Haynes is clueless about what it takes to run the police department. Unless Mr.Haynes is just looking after another one of those Georgia Boys and speaking of Georgia Boys below you will find all the state departments that you can contact about Lt.Martin and his IMMORAL,UNETHICAL AND ILLEGAL Activity's.

Remember the squeaky wheel gets the most grease.

So lets start our own investigation with the departments above into the goings on at city hall and the police department because I for one am getting sick of the smae we do not discuss personnel issues with the public.
What do they think if the Public is who put them in office then they do work for us and owe the public explanations for there actions.

Remember to pack city hall tonight for the council meeting.

I think it is worth noting the potential reasons as to why Coach and Seab have decided to leave the blog. (Admittedly Seab has not officially 'signed off', but he has yet to respond to quite a few direct comments.)

Firstly, it appears that they were both aware that their comments were actually contributing to debate and therefore generating interest through hits on the site and talking in the town. Without alluding to Coach's identity, I believe he finally realized that perhaps he was doing city hall no favors by posting and contributing to debate.

As a result of this debate, I think they also both became aware that we were actaully making quite an impact on the opinions of key people and that we were also WINNING the debate. If they had continued to blog, we would have seen them lose spectacularly. Rather than lose in this manner, they prefered to slope off like cowards rather than admit defeat.

I believe that these two key people also know each other as they seemed to leave at the same time.

Contrary to Seab's musings, proof in this blogspot does not have to be as rigorous or as strong as in a court of law. Here, we are not governed by evidence laws and there is no statute of limitations. To quote an astute bogger, "where there is smoke there is fire". There is much smoke here, but we are also beginning to see the first licks of fire coming from beneath city hall's doors.

People, it seems that this blog IS having an impact on city hall and council. Shane has lied and cheated his way to the top and it appears the right people are finally sitting up and taking notice.

Friends, we must not grow complacent. To continue this pressure holds paramount importance to being satisfied with what we have already achieved.

Administrator, documents need to continue to be posted here and debate must not stop. The only way to win is to continue the pressure on city hall.

Fellow revolutionaries, the time to strike is now. We have cracked the thick skin of city hall and any information reagrding Shane's antics, large or small, needs to be published now. Let's hit then with one blow after another while they are weakened. This is the way to be successful in our aims.

I have not gone anywhere. I simply only post about matters that I have knowledge of and continue to hope that I will gain knowledge about other things that MAY be going on.

I simply refuse to make decisions about things without proof and I advise others to do the same. To make choices based on hearsay and gossip is to make a choice out of ignorance.

Welcome back then Seab. Good to have you back in the debate!

Seab said: "you both have proven my point. Atleast one of you has admittedly conveyed second hand information as fact. There are two different stories on the same event. This is why I was asking for HARDCORE proof rather than just wanting to know what someone said about it."

I say, to you, Seab:

You have stated many times that you want proof. What constitutes proof, to you? Do you want documented evidence? Well, in my case I have it.

In most cases the documented evidence lies within city hall.

I have to applaud the person that recorded the meeting with Shane Haynes, though the last portion of the 'outburst' was not caught on tape. Even YOU should appreciate such 'tricks' to obtain evidence.

If nothing else, there's proof that:

1. the meeting took place

2. the majority of what has been attributed to Shane Haynes was in fact said

As for the rest of the quotes attributed to Shane Haynes:

A random sampling through these blogs would provide you with a common theme of the final portions of the meeting. AGAIN, not SOLID proof, but enough to see the smoke billows and want any inquiring mind to look for the fire.

I went to the council meeting per invitation of this web site and let me tell you what your "leader" Mr. Horton said to LT Martin"Dan you are doing a great job...if there is anything you need let me know"
What do you thank of your leader now!?

Did BT ever finish their "blue ribbon investigation" into this post and put it back up on their site? LOL!! I guess freedom of the press works both ways, huh?!!

seab said...

If all you have is what has been posted here, they will not give this the time of day. It appears that there is no big smoking gun as you all have stated and honestly the press does not care. Otherwise, you would not have bothered with this site because you would have been given consideration by the press.

Wiley Coyote said...

But they WILL give time of day to, "I got cut off on 278" or "my cat got stuck in a tree" or "Is anyone into scrapbooking?". That's real hardcore press there. The fact that they deleted it and then came up with some BS excuse about liability tells me that they were told to take it down and did so due to Rob Dewig's ongoing relationship with Shane Haynes. If the press doesn't care, as you say, then why was reporter Mike Gissik,(sp?), camped out in the front lobby at city hall pretty much everyday of the week while Shane very cowardly crept out the back door? The words "press" and "Bluffton Today" shouldn't even be in the same sentence together.

Anonymous said...

Plus the fact that when it came up on the bluffton today, it was a BLOG, not a news story. The "press", as seab calls them, wasn't even a factor. Funny thing is, though, that alot of people certainly seemed interested in why that post got pulled on that site. For those who might not be familiar with the edgy hardcore news on the BT site, here's a few examples...

"Here's your chance to be a radio star!"

"Happy Evening"

"Name those new Bluffton Schools!"

"Myrtle Island folks please slow down!!!"

Those are just a few of the big time stories that are obviously more important than a corrupt city government.

Keep chasing down those leads seab!! I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight if I don't find out the outcome of the big investigation into the fast food restaurant that charges for water!! Pfff...Powder Puff Press.
